Ukrainian, Polish foreign ministries sign cooperation plan for 2016-2017

Foreign Minister of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin and his Polish counterpart Grzegorz Schetyna have discussed the necessity of consolidating international support for Ukraine to counteract Russian aggression and agreed on cooperation between their two ministries for 2016-2017.

According to the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, during the 7th meeting of the council of leadership of the Ukrainian and Polish foreign ministries, the parties placed special emphasis on "the necessity of further consolidation of international support to Ukraine in combating Russian aggression, Poland's expert help with implementing reforms, particularly under the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement and support in facilitating the cancelation of the visa regime for Ukrainians."

"Prospects of Ukrainian-Polish cooperation were conditioned upon not only by geopolitical position, but also by deep historic, culture and economic relations," Klimkin said at the meeting.

Klimkin also said that Ukraine counted on Poland's support in its European integration aspirations.

In turn, Schetyna said that Poland would always unconditionally support a safe, independent, democratic and integral Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders, as it's in the interest of Poland, as well as being in the interest of peace and stability across the European continent.

According to the Foreign Ministry's press service, the cooperation plan for the Ukrainian and Polish foreign ministries in 2016-2017 was signed as a result of the meeting. In addition, Poland received a note that finished the procedure to bring into effect the inter-government agreement on opening the international checkpoint "Uhryniv- Dolhobyczow."
