Russian human rights commissioner promises foreign ambassadors to monitor Savchenko case

Russian human rights commissioner Ella Pamfilova intends to follow the case of Ukrainian pilot Nadia Savchenko, confined in a Moscow pre-trial detention facility.

The Savchenko case dominated Pamfilova's meeting with head of the European Commission delegation to Russia Vygaudas Usackas and ambassadors and representatives of 27 foreign nations, Interfax was told at the service of the commissioner on Wednesday.

"Ella Pamfilova confirmed that she would continue monitoring the humanitarian and legal aspects of the Savchenko case within her powers," the press service said.

The meeting was attended by ambassadors and embassy representatives of Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden and the United States, Pamfilova's press service said.
