Referendum organizers claim over 89% vote for state independence of Donetsk region
The preliminary data of representatives of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) suggest that the turnout at the referendum held last Sunday was 74.87%, the Donetsk regional state administration said in a statement on Monday.
"Of them, 89.07% recognized the state independence of the DPR. Ten point nineteen per cent voted no. Destroyed ballots account for 0.74%," the statement said.
The poll organizers said there were no plans to hold a second stage of the referendum on the union with Russia, the regional administration said.
"There is a relative calm after the poll over the status of the DPR," the statement said.
