As a nation presiding over the OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe) in 2014, Switzerland could obtain the status of an international observer in Ukraine, Swiss Foreign Ministry's Political Director Arthur Mattli said.

Mattli is leading a delegation of the OSCE's Europe, Central Asia and Council of Europe section, currently in St. Petersburg, where he met with the city's Legislative Assembly Chairman Vyacheslav Makarov on Wednesday.

"Mr. Mattli said that the OSCE traditionally plays an important role in stabilizing crises. Due to this, Switzerland, which is chairing the organization this year, could obtain the status of an international observer in Ukraine," according to a spokesperson for the Legislative Assembly.

Today there is chance to agree and resolve the crisis peacefully, including with the held of the OSCE mission, Mattli said, according to the spokesperson.
