Tigipko calls for Rybak's immediate resignation, urgent election of prime minister

Party of Regions MP Sergiy Tigipko has said that a solution to the crisis in the country requires several steps, including the resignation of Parliament Speaker Volodymyr Rybak and the urgent election of a prime minister supported by all factions.

"The president, the parliament speaker, the acting prime minister and opposition leaders have completely lost control of the situation in the country and do not offer any solutions to pacify the country. Their inaction is leading to increased confrontation and deaths. Immediate concrete steps, rather than negotiations, are needed to resolve the crisis in the country," Tigipko wrote on his page on Facebook on Thursday.

Tigipko insisted that, to overcome the crisis, "the speaker should be replaced immediately," and an opposition parliamentarian should come in his stead.

It is also necessary "to urgently elect a prime minister, whose candidacy should be supported by all factions," and "the new head of the Cabinet should introduce government members and present a plan of primary actions the same day," he said.

Tigipko also called for "setting up an investigative parliamentary commission to investigate all violations that have led to the loss of life."

The Party of Regions parliamentarians have announced the establishment of an anti-crisis parliamentary group within the faction, Tigipko said. "We are inviting all people's deputies, regardless of their party affiliation, to join our common work on implementing the declared steps at the parliament. The matter concerns the country's fate. Be responsible!" Tigipko said on Facebook.
