Lithuanian Minister Plenipotentiary Marius Janukonis has been summoned to Ukraine's Foreign Ministry on Wednesday to give explanations regarding the participation of Speaker of Lithuanian Seimas Loreta Grauziniene in an opposition rally.

"Ukraine's Foreign Ministry has expressed concern over the participation of the Seimas representative in yesterday's opposition rally in Kyiv," spokeswoman for the Lithuanian Minister of Foreign Affairs told BNS.

On Tuesday night Grauziniene took part in the opposition rally in Kyiv and said that Lithuania supported the Ukrainians in the process of European integration, adding that Lithuania could be Ukraine's bridge to the European Union.

"Lithuania, which took its path towards Europe, is ready to be a bridge for Ukraine to the European Union," she said.

Grauziniene and two deputy speakers of the Seimas arrived to Kyiv on Tuesday. The visit was neither pre-planned nor coordinated with the government, president and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania.

The speaker cancelled a planned visit to the United Kingdom to travel to Ukraine.
