Visits to inmates canceled in all prisons in Kharkiv region, says Kachanivska penal colony chief

Short and long term visits to inmates of all penal colonies in Kharkiv region have been canceled, Head of the Kachanivska penal colony Ihor Kolpaschykov has said.

He explained that this ban was introduced due to the limitation of mass actions on the territory of Kharkiv due to high incidence of acute respiratory infections.

"We've received an order from the mayor, which imposes restrictions on holding public events in Kharkiv. Accordingly, I was approached by the acting chief physician of Central Clinical Hospital No. 5, who asked us to limit the number of visits. Under existing laws, namely paragraph 46 of the internal regulations we temporary stopped holding meetings. This applies not only to Kachanivska penal colony, it applies to all the colonies in the region," he told reporters outside Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 on Monday.

Kolpaschykov promised that as soon as the restrictions on holding public events were listed, visits to Tymoshenko would be allowed.

He added that the restrictions apply not only to short-term and long-term visits, but to meetings with defense counsels.

When asked how long the restriction would last, Kolpaschykov said that such measures usually lasted from three to seven days.

Iryna and Yuriy Lutsenko and Head of the Batkivschyna faction Arseniy Yatseniuk arrived in Central Clinical Hospital No. 5 on Monday hoping to meet with the imprisoned former premier, Yulia Tymoshenko. They went to the hospital grounds, and a few minutes later Kolpaschykov went out to make the announcement to the journalists, an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent reported.

In addition, a three-day meeting of Tymoshenko with her daughter Yevhenia Tymoshenko was scheduled to start at 1500 on Monday. Tulia Tymoshenko planned to spend her birthday, November 27, with her daughter.
