Rybak hopes parliament will adopt all European integration laws by end of May

The political parties in the Ukrainian parliament are now ready to make every effort to sign the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU, Verkhovna Rada Chairman Volodymyr Rybak has said.

"I'm pleased that last week we managed to unblock the work of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and return to constructive activities. All political parties are currently determined to make every effort to sign the Association Agreement in November this year," Rybak said at a meeting with the leaders of the European Parliament's monitoring mission in Ukraine, Aleksander Kwasniewski and Pat Cox, in Kyiv on Monday.

Kwasniewski, in turn, said that the signing of the Association Agreement "will open a new page in the history of Ukraine."

"We're talking not only about the signing of the agreement, but also about lasting cooperation between Ukraine and the EU. Association with the EU is currently a strategy for Ukraine," Kwasniewski said.

He also noted the key role of parliament in the run-up to the Vilnius summit and the signing of the Association Agreement.

"It's very important how the Verkhovna Rada works on the road to the signing of the Association Agreement. The image of Ukraine requires a parliament that works, not one that is blocked," Kwasniewski said.

Rybak said that all branches of power in Ukraine were making every effort to fulfill the obligations of the country to the EU. He also said that all EU integration laws would be adopted by the end of May.

"The constitutional majority in the Verkhovna Rada is ready to make the necessary preparations for the summit in Vilnius in November," Rybak said.

He noted that the Ukrainian side was considering the activities of the European Parliament's monitoring mission as a significant factor in the establishment of mutual trust and the deepening of an active dialog between the EU and Ukraine in preparations for the signing of the Association Agreement.
