Lukashenko, Yanukovych to discuss Belarusian-Ukrainian relations in May

During a phone conversation on Monday, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and his Ukrainian counterpart Viktor Yanukovych reached an agreement to meet in May, the Belarusian president's press service told Interfax.

"The presidents also discussed certain issues that exist in bilateral relations. A general agreement has been reached to hold a top-level meeting in May to discuss these issues," the press service reported.

Lukashenko and Yanukovych also discussed the public initiative to create a public Belarusian-Ukrainian-Russian movement. This issue will also be discussed by the presidents, the press service reported.

The two presidents pointed out the successful development of trade and economic relations between the two countries, the press service said.

In 2012, Belarusian-Ukrainian commodity turnover reached a record level of $7.9 billion, which is a 27% increase from 2011.

Large-scale bilateral projects in the sphere of fuel and energy and industrial cooperation, specifically, joint assembly of equipment manufactured by the MTZ, Gomselmash, MAZ and other enterprises, are also being successfully implemented, the press service reported.
