Case on killing of security guards in Karavan shopping mall could be closed

The police have not ruled out that a criminal case that was earlier opened against Yaroslav Mazurok, the suspect in the killing of security guards in the Karavan shopping mall in Kyiv, could be closed if the results of a DNA test confirm that a man that was found dead in Kyiv on November 7 is the suspect.

"If it is confirmed that the body found is [Mazurok's], then, perhaps, the case will be closed in connection with the death of the suspect," the media liaisons office of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry reported.

In addition, the police will continue to investigate whether anyone was hiding Mazurok and providing any assistance to him.

"If this is confirmed, then there will be another criminal case," the ministry said.

As reported, the body of a man resembling the suspect in the murder of guards at the Karavan shopping center in Kyiv, Yaroslav Mazurok, was found in Kyiv on Wednesday.

According to preliminary police inquiry findings, the man committed suicide. The police said that a resident of Kyiv found the body while walking his dog in the morning.

The deceased was in possession of a passport in the name of Mazurok.

The police say that they took a sample of the man's DNA to determine whether he was indeed Mazurok.
