Police: no identification of Mazurok's body by surviving guard yet

The body of the suspect in the murder of security guards at a Karavan shopping mall, Yaroslav Mazurok, has not yet been shown to the guard who survived the attack, Pavlo Fedenkov, for identification, according to the chief of the main investigation department of the Interior Ministry of Ukrain, Vasyl Farynnyk.

"The dead body of Mazurok hasn't been provided for identification by the guard, since this wasn't planned by the law enforcement agencies. The procedure of identification [of the suspect] has been conducted only with the relatives," Farynnyk told journalists in Kyiv on Wednesday.

He said that the injured guard, however, had recognized Mazurok's photograph.

Earlier, some Ukrainian media reported that the guard who survived the shooting did not recognize Mazurok as the person that shot his fellow guards in Karavan.

As reported, the body of a man resembling Yaroslav Mazurok, the suspect in the murder of guards at a Karavan shopping center, was found in Kyiv on November 7.

According to preliminary police inquiry findings, the man committed suicide. The police say that they took a sample of the man's DNA to determine whether he was indeed Mazurok.

According to the TSN news program on the 1+1 TV channel, Mazurok's wife Liudmyla identified the man, whose body was found in Kyiv, as her husband.

On November 8, the police said that the fingerprints of the man are identical to fingerprints taken during the inspection of the murder scene.

According to the ministry, law enforcers found in a pocket of the deceased man the passport of Yaroslav Mazurok, a technical certificate for a Jawa motorbike, as well as Mazurok's a driver's license and identification certificate. The police also found a gun with one spent cartridge in the cylinder.

"Samples of the material taken from Mazurok's home, from the murder scene at the mall, as well as samples taken from him were analyzed. The examination results indicate that it was he who committed this crime," the public relations department of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine reported.

The report also says that they found the blood of one of the murdered guards on shoes found in Mazurok's residence.

"At present, the police have proved that it was Mazurok, who was at the Karavan shopping center and that it was he who committed the crime. In addition, law enforcers are currently checking for his involvement in a number of unsolved crimes involving firearms," the police said.
