EU ambassador opposes introduction of sanctions for Ukraine

Head of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Jan Tombinski has said that no sanctions should be introduced for Ukraine.

"I think that both Ukraine and the European Union deserve a better future," he told journalists in Kyiv on Tuesday, when asked whether the EU could introduce sanctions against Ukraine.

The ambassador said that it was easy to introduce sanctions against a country, however they don't guarantee successful changes for the country.

"Sanctions are not a simple thing. They may be introduced, but they might not bring positive changes to the country," Tombinski said.

According to him, there are examples of cases when sanctions against countries were used for years, but brought no positive results.

"Sanctions can be introduced easily, but it is difficult to cancel them. There should be [good] reasons for their introduction," the diplomat said.
