Poll: Half of foreign fans tried salo for first time at Euro 2012

Fifty-six percent of foreign football fans have for the first time tried salo (cured slabs of pork fat, with or without skin) at Euro 2012, the Ukraine 2012 Information Center has reported, according to a survey conducted by the AgriSurvey Agency and the Ukrainian Agribusiness Club.

"Ukraine’s national product has become a real discovery for 56% of foreign football fans," reads the statement.

According to the survey, more than half of respondents, when asked whether they heard anything about salo, said: "What is it?"

Among respondents who have already tried it, the figure was 27%.

According to the statement, those who tried salo for the first time liked it.

The study also showed that of the Ukrainian dishes, 39% of respondents said they liked borsch, 20% - varenyky (stuffed dumplings), 9% - Chicken Kyiv, and 4% - holubtsi (cabbage rolls) and potato pancakes.

Some fans said their favorite dishes were black pudding and horseradish with beets.
