Scholz: Allies will discuss security guarantees for Ukraine in near future

The allies will soon discuss security guarantees for Ukraine after the end of the war with the Russian Federation, as well as the issue of maintaining a strong army, "which we can equip together," said German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

"It would be good news if the war in Ukraine came to an end. But even then, we will still have to provide Ukraine with a secure future. Then, we will talk about security guarantees, as well as how Ukraine can maintain a strong army that we can equip together," he said in an interview with the German publication Rheinische Post.

"We will discuss this with our allies soon. However, such speculation is currently prohibited. Ultimately, nothing should be decided over the heads of Ukrainians. And we are still far from peace," Scholz believes.

As reported, the issue of sending peacekeeping forces to Ukraine in the future is currently being discussed. According to President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyн, 200,000 European peacekeepers are needed to ensure sustainable peace.

French President Emmanuel Macron was the first who admitted sending peacekeepers to Ukraine.
