Yatsenyuk: Conclusions should be drawn from past, we cannot have another Budapest Memorandum
Conclusions should be drawn from the events of the past, Ukraine cannot have another Budapest Memorandum or another 2008 Bucharest summit, Chairman of the Kyiv Security Forum, Prime Minister of Ukraine in 2014-2016 Arseniy Yatsenyuk has said on Thursday.
He also noted that the Open Ukraine Foundation is holding a youth forum for the first time since the start of a full-scale war, and this is already the 10th Kyiv Security Forum for Youth. Yatsenyuk emphasized that the name of the event is Gen W, however, this is not only about the war generation.
"Generation W is a generation of warriors. Generation W is a generation of winners. And you represent this generation," the founder of the Kyiv Security Forum said addressing the forum participants.
This forum, as Yatsenyuk emphasized, will become "a platform for those who are fighting for Ukraine today, and a platform for those who will rebuild Ukraine tomorrow."
Following the forum, he recalled, the participants will draw up two documents – letters to NATO and the Ukrainian government about the importance of Ukraine's membership in the Alliance.
"You have excellent opportunities for the world to hear the word of Ukrainian youth, why Ukraine should become a member of NATO, why it will become it and what needs to be done for it to become a member of the European Union," he said.
"I am convinced that if the youth that we have here expresses its vision, we will not have another Budapest Memorandum or another 2008 Bucharest [summit]. We must draw conclusions. And we must move forward so that Ukraine and the entire civilized world win. My hopes are for the Ukrainian army. My hopes are for each of you. The hopes of our state are that we will win this righteous war. And Generation W will truly be the Generation of winners. I am sure of it," Yatsenyuk emphasized.
