Wikipedia to hold Ukrainian Language Week – ministry

The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine together with NGO Wikimedia Ukraine will hold the Ukrainian Language Week in Wikipedia from October 15 to November 5.

"The goal of the project is to create and improve more articles on the topic of Ukrainian language and literature in the Ukrainian-language section of Wikipedia. Ukrainian language is the basis of national identity and the most important factor of security in the conditions of Russian aggression. Support and development of the Ukrainian language strengthens the unity of society, enhances cultural sovereignty and promotes consolidation around Ukrainian values," the ministry said.

The Ukrainian Language Week in Wikipedia allows to expand the influence of Ukrainian culture in the media landscape, in particular, through the creation of high-quality Ukrainian-language content available at the global level.

The agency believes that public involvement in such initiatives not only contributes to the popularization of the language, but also allows everyone to contribute to the strengthening of the language community.

According to the ministry, the campaign starts on October 15 and will run up to and including November 5, 2024.

"Everyone is welcome to join. To do this, you need to register on Wikipedia and create or improve at least one article on the topic of Ukrainian language or literature," the ministry said.
