Poroshenko at security conference in Sweden: West has means to defeat Putin, courage is lacking

2 min read

The leader of the European Solidarity party, MP Petro Poroshenko, participating in the international security conference in Visby (Sweden), called on Western allies to ensure Ukraine's victory, and stressed that the West has all the capabilities and resources to ensure that Russia is defeated in Ukraine, the political force's website reported.

"What is happening in Ukraine concerns everyone in Europe and beyond. What is happening in Ukraine concerns global security, concerns the entire world ... The West has the best technology, the best army. The West has the best tactics, approaches, interoperability, coherence. In the financial issue, the West is much stronger. How can we not win? How can we lose this war?" Poroshenko said.

Answering the question about a "Victory Plan" or a "Peace Plan," Poroshenko spoke about "red lines" that must not be crossed.

"Firstly, no compromises regarding our independence, our sovereignty. Ukraine must remain not a subject of Russia, not a colony of Russia, but a sovereign and independent European state. We will not accept anything else ... Secondly, not a single compromise, like in Istanbul, regarding the Ukrainian Armed Forces in exchange for security. I do not trust Putin. Putin will attack us again if we have a weak army," he warned.

"Thirdly, in exchange for peace, no compromises on territorial integrity. We will never recognize either Crimea or Donbas as Russian territory ... "Fourthly, no compromises on sanctions and responsibility of the aggressor, because without sanctions we cannot limit the ability to finance the war ... And most importantly: peace in Ukraine is impossible without NATO membership," Poroshenko emphasized.

According to him, Ukraine is not a burden for NATO, because the Ukrainian military is better trained and more experienced than other NATO members. It is in the interests of the North Atlantic Alliance to accept Ukraine for the sake of strong and stable peace in the entire transatlantic zone.

"My main message: stop being afraid of Putin. Do not allow him to use your fear as a weapon. Let's take decisive steps towards a common victory. This will not be a Ukrainian victory - it will be a victory for the entire free democratic world. And, please, no ‘Ukrainian fatigue.’ Because this is not Ukrainian fatigue. This is fatigue from democracy, fatigue from freedom, fatigue from normal life,” Poroshenko said.
