Italy's financial guard seizes Russian oligarch's EUR 41 mln-worth assets at Ukraine's request

Italy's Financial Guard (Guardia di Finanza) has seized assets worth EUR 41 million belonging to Russian oligarch Alexey Fedorychev, including his villa Torre del Gallo in Tuscany valued at EUR 38 million and three other real estate facilities worth EUR 38 million, tgcom24 reported.
"Upon request of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) for international legal assistance, the Florence's Financial Guard seized property of a businessman of Russian origin, representing an international grain trader," SAPO said on the Telegram channel on Wednesday.
By decision of relevant Italian authorities, a castle worth EUR 41 million, which is material evidence in the case of inflicting more than $60 million losses to the State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine, was seized in Florence.
Within the framework of pre-trial investigation, it was established that in July-October 2014, officials of the State Food and Grain Corporation of Ukraine organized the conclusion and execution of foreign economic contracts for the sale of grain products at understated prices to controlled enterprises, SAPO said.
According to the scheme, the grain owned by the state company, through a number of business entities on postpaid terms was delivered to Saudi Arabia, but the funds for the delivered grain were never paid.
"The investigation established that it was for a part of these funds that the villa was purchased," it said.
According to tgcom24, Fedorychev lives in Monaco and is a citizen of Hungary and Uruguay. Fedorychev has appointed lawyers Michele Luzzetti and Michele D'Avirro to defend him.
Fedorychev was previously a co-owner of port infrastructure facilities, including in Ukraine, as well as the football teams Dynamo Moscow and Rostov. He currently sponsors the football club Munich Baske.
