Emergency Service's head: Enemy damages, destroys over 1,700 units of fire, rescue equipment

During the full-scale military aggression, Russian forces damaged and destroyed more than 1,700 units of fire and rescue equipment, the fleet of special equipment is being restored thanks to the help of international partners and purchases from the state budget, Head of the State Emergency Service Andriy Danyk said.

"More than 1,700 pieces of equipment have already been damaged and lost: fire, rescue, engineering, and ordinary cars that are used in everyday activities," Danyk said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.

According to him, the State Emergency Service is restoring a fleet of special equipment thanks to international assistance and budget funds. "For the last three years, we have been receiving funds from the state budget, it is possible to purchase modern vehicles to equip our units. First of all, these are firefighting equipment – fire ladders, tanks, armored vehicles of our engineer units, which allows us to protect personnel," Danyk said.

Answering the question about which countries the State Emergency Service purchases special equipment from, Danyk said in 90% we are talking about Ukrainian equipment. "Fire ladders and tractor-trailers are not produced in Ukraine, so we purchase this equipment from foreign manufacturers who win the tender," he said.

Speaking about international assistance, the head of the State Emergency Service said some countries are providing new equipment. "It amounts to approximately the same number of units as we buy from the state budget," Danyk said.

Clarifying whether the State Emergency Service has enough equipment in general, taking into account all the tasks and challenges, he noted: "The fire and rescue service is structured in such a way that there is equipment that is in the operational crew, and there is also a 100% reserve. In the operational crew, all the equipment is modern. We are also working to ensure that the reserves are also modern."
