Ukraine to present at COP-28 Zelenskyy's Peace Formula initiatives for ecocide prevention, environmental damage compensation

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine is preparing to present at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP-28) in the United Arab Emirates, due in late November, the initiatives of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Peace Formula for the prevention of ecocide and compensation for the environmental damage caused by the aggressor, Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Minister of Ukraine Ruslan Strilets has said.

"We will definitely go to COP-28 with the Peace Formula and the initiatives that will proceed from its eights item. We are working to ensure that Ukraine have a pavilion, just like it was last year, the second one over the history of its independence. We expect to see a large number of distinguished guests, support for our initiatives, and signing of a range of important strategic documents," he said in an exclusive interview with the Interfax-Ukraine News Agency.

According to the minister, the recently created International Working Group on the Environmental Crimes of Russia, co-chaired by Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yerman and former Deputy Prime Minister and former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Sweden Margot Wallström, continues to work on the specific tools and mechanisms to not only bring the aggressor to justice at the legal level and through other countries but also take measures to restore the environment.

Strilets said that, the ministry is planning to hold a large international event ahead of the climate conference to announce important international documents and COP-28 will become one of the platforms where other countries would have an opportunity to support and join these documents.

At the same time, the minister noted that COP-28 will be uneasy as long as it will take place in the UAE, and the president of this country, Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is the ruler of Abu Dhabi, has announced his intention to invite the Ukrainian president at the negotiation table with his Russian counterpart.

"This signal is alarming as long as such an initiative does not comply with the Ukrainian Peace Formula with which Ukraine will go there," Strilets said.
