EBRD decision to deprive companies in Belarus, Russia of number of resources

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine welcomes the decision of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to terminate access to the bank's resources for the Russian Federation and Belarus.

"These fateful decisions, initiated by Ukraine after Russia launched full-scale military aggression against our state with the support of Belarus, for the first time ever were officially adopted by resolutions of the Board of Governors No. 245 and 246 with the support of the vast majority of EBRD shareholders," the commentary published by the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry emphasizes.

The ministry thanked the leadership of the EBRD and Ukraine's international partners, who reaffirmed their support for Ukraine in making these decisions.

"We are grateful that they did not stand aside and thus condemned the atrocities resorted to by the Russian army against the Ukrainian people. The entire world community must condemn the atrocities of the Russian army and take effective measures to ensure that the inhumane and inhuman behavior of the aggressor country, which is also a permanent member of the UN Security Council, is immediately stopped," the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stressed.

It is noted that although operations in Russia have been practically stopped since 2014, and Belarusian projects for state enterprises have not been financed for some time, the current decisions of the EBRD deprive Russian and Belarusian companies of access to such tools as additional financing and liquidity support, and also mean withdrawal of the EBRD from any assets associated with the Russian Federation.

"Along with the closure of offices in Moscow and Minsk, today's decision has become a logical continuation of the EBRD's policy of distancing itself from the aggressor state," the ministry stressed.

As reported, on April 4, the Board of Governors of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) officially approved the application of Article 8.3 of the charter to stop Russia and Belarus from accessing the bank's resources.
