Accounting chamber to audit Ukrzaliznytsia in 2019

The Accounting Chamber plans to audit PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia regarding the price policy and purchase prices in 2019, the chamber has said in a report.

"The Accounting Chamber received a letter from Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelyan requesting an audit of Ukrzaliznytsia. The constant criticism of the company did not go unnoticed by the minister and he is also interested in an unbiased assessment of the effectiveness or inefficiency of Ukrzaliznytsia," the chamber said, citing Chairman of the Accounting Chamber Valeriy Patskan.

In particular, the Infrastructure Ministry asked to audit the state-owned property management efficiency by Ukrzaliznytsia, indicating that this may have financial implications for the national budget. In addition, the ministry also said that Ukrzaliznytsia does not fully provide for the transportation of both raw materials and finished goods to consignors.

Patskan said that in recent times there have been a lot of questions and comments on the work of the railways, including also regarding price policy, quality of service, and unreasonably high purchase prices.

"Purchase of coal at inflated prices, significant costs for SMM services, exorbitant sums for souvenirs. The Accounting Chamber, after updating its composition, has raised the issue of the need for an audit at Ukrzaliznytsia," Patskan said.

According to him, given that the current audit plan has already been approved and little time is left until the end of the year, the possibility of checking Ukrzaliznytsia next year is being discussed.
