Ukraine's energy ministry drafting energy security bill

Ukraine's Energy and Coal Industry Ministry is working on a bill about energy security and sustainable development of the energy sector, Deputy Minister Natalia Boiko has said at the 10th Sustainable Energy Forum (SEF) 2018 in Kyiv.

"We often use the notions and expressions as energy security and sustainability of the energy system, which are not defined in the legislation today. There is a large room for discussions, which in fact should not take place," she said.

"These concepts should be clearly fixed in the legislation, and we should work with concrete definitions," Boiko said, voicing the position of the ministry.

The deputy minister said that at present, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry is engaged in the creation of a working group of representatives of the central executive power agencies, with whom the ministry will work on a legislative initiative.

According to her, since energy security is a matter of physical security, infrastructure development, the functioning of the cybersecurity system of energy facilities, the range of authorities that will be brought into the discussion is wide.

"Later, as soon as we realize that we feel comfortable with this bill, that it is of high quality and ready for the public discussion, we will publish it and begin to work out every segment," Boiko said.
