Economy ministry initiates changes to conditions of free trade with EU

The Economic Development and Trade Ministry will analyze deepening of trade with the European Union (EU) and initiates changes to the conditions of free trade, Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Ukraine's Trade Representative Natalia Mykolska has said.

According to a report on the ministry's website, the ministry plans to determine the optimal format of cooperation in the free trade zone or the customs union with the EU in the short-term and long-term outlook.

"Now it is clear that the conditions of free trade should be revised. The negotiations on the creation of the free trade zone with the European Union were finished long ago and now the conditions of access of goods to the Ukrainian and EU markets are out-of-date," the press service said, quoting Mykolska.

She said that at present, the current quotas and restrictions, long transition periods for industrial goods work neither for the EU nor for Ukraine.
