Infrastructure Ministry expects EasyJet and Eurowings to enter Ukrainian market in 2018

Residents of Ukraine in 2018, in addition to the flights of Europe's largest air carrier Ryanair, are likely to be able to use the services of other well-known low cost companies, namely EasyJet and Eurowings, Infrastructure Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan has said.

"I hope next year we will be able to welcome both Ryanair and EasyJet, Eurowings in Ukraine because it's not only cheap flights for Ukrainians, but also attracting tourists to the country," the minister said at a meeting with the European Business Association (EBA) in Kyiv.

Asked to clarify whether the matter concerns specific negotiations with these companies on entering Ukraine in 2018, Omelyan said "I won't comment now."

At the same time, he stressed he is confident that Ryanair, whose planned start of work in Ukraine from September this year failed through the conflict with Boryspil airport, next year will precisely begin flights to the country.

"The realistic term for Ryanair is 2018. But this will definitely happen," the minister said.

In his opinion, Boryspil airport should reconsider its position in negotiations with low cost airlines, making the main indicator of its work the number of passengers served. According to Omelyan's forecasts, this year Boryspil airport will increase passenger traffic by 16%, to about 10 million people, and then in two years it could bring it to 20 million.
