lifecell sees UAH 232 mln of net loss in H1 2017, revenue 3% up

The lifecell mobile communications operator saw UAH 232 million in net loss in January-June 2017, while a year ago its net profit stood at UAH 1.11 billion.

According to a financial report of the company's parent company Turkcell (Turkey) posted on its official website, lifecell's revenue grew by 3% in H1 2017, to UAH 2.353 billion. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) fell by 5.6%, to UAH 623.3 million. EBITDA margin decreased by 2.4 percentage points, reaching 26.5%.

Capital investment in H1 2017 declined by 33.1%, to UAH 681.5 million.

According to the report, in April-June 2017, revenue grew by 1.8% year-over-year, to UAH 1.173 billion.

In Q2 2017 the company saw UAH 94 million of net loss compared to UAH 1.178 billion of net profit a year ago.

The press service of lifecell told Interfax-Ukraine that the large increase in net profit in Q2 2016 is linked to the sale of 811 towers for telecom equipment for $52 million to Ukrtower. The deal was signed within the Turkcell Group.

EBITDA in Q2 2017 fell by 0.2%, to UAH 303.6 million and EBITDA margin – by 0.5 percentage points, to 25.9%.

Capital investment over the period fell by 21.1%, to UAH 444 million.

In Q2 2017, the active three-month subscribers' base of the operator narrowed by 13.4% year-over-year, to 8.4 million subscribers. The company explained this by the reduction of the number of users of several SIM cards.

The active three-month average revenue per user (ARPU) rose by 19.1% in Q2 2017 year-over-year, reaching UAH 45.50. The 12 month active minutes of use (MoU) fell by 8.8%, to 126.7 minutes.
