Competition agency plans to finish probe into Gazprom's transit issues by 2016

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine plans to finish an investigation into the operation of Russia's Gazprom regarding gas transit issues before early 2016, Committee Head Yuriy Terentyev has said.

"We're moving forward, working on two elements. One of them is relations between Ukraine and Gazprom under the gas sale and purchase agreement, and the second is relations between Ukraine and Gazprom in gas transit. As for transit, where Gazprom is actually a monopoly buyer, I believe we have all the chances to finish the case by the end of the year," he said in an interview with the Dzerkalo Tyzhnia. Ukraine weekly.

"As for the sale and purchase agreement, the situation is more complicated, as the arbitration process between Naftogaz and Gazprom is ongoing, and some interim decisions in it are important for us. We do not communicate directly with the Stockholm arbitration [the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce], and the decision in the case on the sale and purchase agreement could be issued later, maybe at the end of the first quarter of 2016," he said.

Terentyev said that if Gazprom has violated Ukrainian law, the practical execution of the decision of the committee could be affected.

As reported, on April 22, 2015, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine passed a resolution asking the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine to investigate the violation of laws on the protection of economic competition by OJSC Gazprom.
