Agrarian Fund to contract only 30% of grain under forward deals in autumn

Public joint-stock company Agrarian Fund will contract 250,000-300,000 tonnes of bread grain under forward deals in autumn, or 30% of the general plan, Board Chairman Andriy Radchenko said at a press conference in Kyiv on Tuesday.

The rest of 70% of grain will be contracted in spring after analyzing the state of winter crop sprouts, he said.

"In a week we will start contracting grain, the main part [of contracts to sign] will be postponed for spring. One of the reasons is that we don't put the state company under risks, and in autumn it will be less prepaid, and in spring more when the situation with winter crop sprouts is clear. The second reason is that in spring the sowing campaign starts and the need of farmers in money is larger, and we plan to send 70% of the money for the planned contracts in spring," Radchenko said.

In addition, many farmers postpone the contracting issues for spring, as the tariffs for risk insurance in agriculture are higher in autumn.

Radchenko said that in autumn 2014, 80% of grain was contracted under forward deals.

Today, the forward program formed in autumn 2014 has been fulfilled in the full amount, he said.

Around 20% of fodder grain was received due to weather conditions.

"We would turn fodder grain into liquidity. This money will be also sent to the 2015 autumn forward program for the 2016 harvest," he said.
