MTS Ukraine sells part of fixed-line business to Vega telecoms group

MTS Ukraine mobile operator has sold part of its fixed-line business to PJSC Farlep-Invest (Vega Group), according to a posting on the website of MTS Ukraine.

"MTS Ukraine has announced the signing of an agreement on the sale of part of fixed-line business to Vega's operator. On the basis of the network, earlier acquired from Comstar, the company provided the service of fixed broadband Internet access and fixed telephony to subscribers in Odesa region and Kyiv," reads a statement.

MTS Ukraine explained the deal with the fact that the business of fixed Internet access and telephony for the mass market is not profile for the company.

"On the eve of the active building of a 3G network the sale of fixed-line business will allow MTS Ukraine to focus on the core business - mobile communications, in particular, providing the service of high-speed wireless data transmission," the company said.

Under the terms of the contract, MTS Ukraine will serve the subscribers of fixed Internet access until April 30 this year, fixed telephony - until June 30.

The commercial details of the transaction have not been disclosed.
