Moscow hopes West will extend economic assistance to Ukraine – Lavrov

Moscow hopes that, like Russia, Western countries will take serious steps and will extend economic assistance to Ukraine.

"We have already done a great deal. It is now the turn of the West, which, in my opinion, has not yet realized that it is simply inappropriate to delay for so long the adoption of decisions that will allow Ukraine to live through this winter in a relatively quiet manner," Lavrov said in an interview with the Kommersant newspaper on Thursday.

Most of Ukraine's assistance has been provided by Russia, he said.

"So far, it is only us who have been making efforts to help Ukraine resolve its severe economic problems. This issue has been discussed directly, including between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Petro Poroshenko," Lavrov said.
