Public sector employees in Kyiv left without salaries before New Year holidays due to opposition - Azarov

A Kyiv City Council meeting disrupted by opposition representatives will leave public sector employees without salaries before New Year holidays, Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has said.

"Yesterday opposition MPs picked up the habit of absolutely illegally interfering with the powers of local authorities and disrupted a Kyiv City Council meeting. The government made the decision and allocated an additional UAH 130 million from the state budget as a subsidy for the payment of salaries to public sector employees, but this decision had to be approved at a meeting of the city council session, which was disrupted [on Tuesday]," he said, while opening a government meeting on Wednesday.

"Thus, the capital's public sector employees will not receive salaries for November and December. Doctors, teachers, drivers of trolleybuses, trams, buses, and all state employees will be left without money before New Year holidays," Azarov said.
