Antitrust agency to define with permit to buy Ukrtelecom for SCM in around one month

The Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine has sent requests to all interested persons to analyze a deal on the acquisition of Ukrtelecom, the leader on the fixed communications market and the operator of a 3G mobile communications network, by the largest Ukrainian holding SCM (Donetsk).

"Requests were sent to all market players, experts and the regulator. We're waiting for an answer and then we'll analyze. In a month we'll be able to give a clear answer if the deal will influence the competitive environment on the markets," acting head of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, Rafael Kuzmin said at a press conference in Kyiv on Friday.

As reported, the SCM Group and EPIC Group on June 3, 2013 signed an agreement on the sale and purchase of a 100% stake in UA Тelecominvest Limited (Cyprus), which holds a 100% stake in ESU LLC (Ukraine), which in turn holds a 92.79% stake in public JSC Ukrtelecom.

The SCM portfolio includes other telecommunications assets: the group holds a 45% stake in the third largest mobile operator in Ukraine – Astelit, 100% in Vega Group and MMDS operator (holds a WiMAX license).
