Ukraine to grow gas imports from Europe - minister

Ukraine will continue to increase gas deliveries from Europe, which will allow the country to diversify supply, Energy and Coal Industry Minister Eduard Stavytsky told the press during a Wednesday briefing.

Where at the start of the year daily natural gas imports from Polish territory amounted to two million cubic meters, now they are five million cubic meters, Stavytsky said. Daily deliveries from Hungary increased from three to five million cubic meters, but will grow to twelve million cubic meters in August.

Stavytsky said that, in the event deliveries of natural gas from Romania and Slovakia begin, Ukraine will be able to substantially diversify its natural gas imports.

"Having opened a third and fourth route from Slovakia and Romania, we will be able to fully diversify gas deliveries to Ukraine. I'm convinced that the project for growing such deliveries is very promising, and we will carry it out," he said. "If we add all the reverse routes we are developing, that will be upwards of thirty billion cubic meters of gas a year," he said.
