Infrastructure Ministry in 2013 to invest over EUR 82 m in modernization of air navigation
The Infrastructure Ministry of Ukraine as part of a joint project with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) is to modernize the country's air navigation system, and plans to spend EUR 82.3 million on this.
According to the press service of the ministry, the project's implementation foresees the installation of airfield control radars at Boryspil and Donetsk airports, the purchase and installation of automated systems for air traffic control for the Simferopol regional dispatcher center, the introduction of a new automated air traffic control system for the Odesa regional dispatcher center and systems for air data processing.
It is also planned to construct a new airfield control tower at Boryspil airport, purchase and install distance measuring equipment, replace obsolete ultra-short wave equipment.
According to Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Kozak, the modernization of air navigation systems will not only improve the safety of Ukraine's airspace but also expand the capacity of air traffic, while reducing the workload of aircraft crews.
