Kyivteploenergo's gender committee secures UAH 10.5 mln in support for Kyiv's energy sector

Since the beginning of Russian missile attacks, the Gender Committee of the Kyiv municipal enterprise Kyivteploenergo (KTE) has shifted its focus towards attracting technical and humanitarian aid for the Kyiv's energy sector.

"The result of the Gender Committee's work to date is over UAH 10.5 million in support for Kyiv's energy sector," the company said in a Facebook post on Friday.

The first batch of aid was organized in March 2022 from the EU energy association Euroheat & Power – European energy companies provided equipment and tools worth UAH 5 million. Some of this aid was redirected to colleagues in Kharkiv.

Additionally, in cooperation with the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, the Gender Committee provided 150 paramedic kits and 500 first-aid kits totaling UAH 3.2 million. These medical supplies were distributed to boiler houses, heat and power plants, and emergency teams.

Furthermore, a food bank was established for KTE workers who remained on-site for weeks under shelling to continue supplying the capital with heat. In partnership with the Kyiv branch of the Samaritan Union of Ukraine, over 12 tonnes of food were delivered. The Samaritans also provided blankets, flashlights, candles, portable stoves, rescue equipment, and other aid worth UAH 1.4 million.

To teach employees how to respond effectively in emergencies, the Gender Committee organized training sessions on medical and psychological first aid. These sessions were conducted by specialists from the Ukrainian Red Cross Society, the Respawn School first aid program, and the Israeli Trauma Coalition. Since 2022, more than 1,000 KTE employees have participated in 47 such training sessions, with an estimated total cost of UAH 800,000.

"When it comes to supporting the energy sector and ensuring the safety of personnel, questions of gender equality do not arise. We are united by a common goal – to continue providing Kyiv with heat and electricity and to support those who produce this energy," said Yulia Orel, Chair of the Gender Committee and Deputy Director for Investment and Strategic Development at KTE.

The Gender Committee of Kyivteploenergo has been active for more than five years and was the first in Ukraine's energy sector to implement gender equality policies.

The company employs about 9,000 people, of which 69% are men and 31% are women.
