Shakhtar Donetsk President Rinat Akhmetov believes that the club has deservedly won the Ukrainian Premier League title this season.

"Shakhtar has won five trophies over the past two seasons, which means that despite all the difficulties, our club remains the best in Ukraine. This season the team showed excellent game in the Champions League. We came through a difficult championship race, showed character, and are deservedly holding gold medals and the Ukrainian Cup. Far away from home and native stands, Shakhtar once again defended its status as the No. 1 team," he said in a congratulatory message published on the club's official website.

Akhmetov expressed gratitude to coach Paulo Fonseca and coaching staff, football players, the club's entire management and staff, as well as the fans of the team.

"Most importantly, I want to say a big thank you to all supporters of Shakhtar. Today, each of you is a champion. Thank you for believing in Shakhtar. Thank you for your support and love. We play and win for you," he said.

Akhmetov noted that Shakhtar's goal is to continue to show good game in the Ukrainian football championship and in the Champions League, to please the fans with bright, beautiful and attacking football.

"Shakhtar's ambitions remain unchanged - to be the best in every game, in every tournament, in every new season," he said.
