UEFA to consider case against Metalist on August 13

UEFA has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Ukrainian UEFA Champions League contenders FC Metalist Kharkiv, with the case to be heard on Tuesday, August 13, at the House of European Football in Nyon, Switzerland, reads a statement posted on UEFA's official Web site on Tuesday.

"Proceedings have been opened against Metalist under Articles 2.04g, 2.05 and 2.10 of the Regulations of the UEFA Champions League, 2013/14 competition, regarding the admission criteria for participation in UEFA competitions. Due to the urgency of the case and in accordance with Article 23.3 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, the case has been referred directly to the UEFA Appeals Body," reads the statement.

As reported, on August 2, the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne decided to deprive Metalist of bronze medals for the 2007/2008 season. However, Metalist and Karpaty were not deprived of nine points in the 2011/2012 season, therefore the standings in the Ukrainian Premier League remain unchanged.

It became known on August 5 that UEFA would study the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne in the case of a fixed match played between Metalist and Karpaty in 2008 and consider the possibility of admitting the Kharkiv club to participation in the Champions League in the 2013/2014 season.
