Some 23 new objects become protected in Kyiv region in 2024, incl sections of Serpent's Wall

The Kyiv Regional Council declared 23 territories with a total area of 98.3 hectares as objects of the nature reserve fund in 2024, head of the environmental commission of the regional council Roman Tytykalo said at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday.
According to him, as of December 24, 2024, there were 320 territories and objects of the nature reserve fund in Kyiv region, with a total actual area of 295,700 hectares, of which 26 territories are of national importance and 294 are local, which is 10.5% of the region's territory.
During 2024, in order to preserve and reproduce valuable natural complexes, the gene pool of flora and fauna, the local landscape reserves Serpent's Wall near the village of Pashkivka and Serpent's Wall near the village of Zavalivka, the local botanical reserve Aged Pine Forest in the Tarascha forestry, a number of botanical natural monuments and areas became protected.
At the same time, taking into account the loss of nature conservation value, the status of botanical natural monuments of local importance was cancelled for several objects with an area of 0.5 to 5.5 hectares, the local botanical reserve Horodescheno and the local ornithological reserve Chaplia.
In order to ensure national security and defense, land plots along the state border line 45 meters wide with a total area of 695.2 hectares were withdrawn from the Chornobyl Radiation and Ecological Biosphere Reserve.
