Polish police initiates proceedings regarding incident involving Polish farmers spilling Ukrainian grain – ambassador

Ukraine has requested that the Polish police open a case regarding the incident on Sunday, when Polish farmers spilled Ukrainian grain from trucks, law enforcement authorities have initiated proceedings, Ukraine's Ambassador to the Republic of Poland Vasyl Zvarych has said.

"After receiving information about Polish farmers spilling grain from Ukrainian trucks, which were sealed after the respective customs procedures and were transiting to Lithuania, the Embassy and Consulate General of Ukraine in Lublin promptly appealed to the Polish police to open a case regarding this shameful crime," Zvarych wrote on his Facebook page.

The ambassador added that "the Polish police have opened proceedings and initiated the necessary procedures."

In addition, Ukrainian diplomats are in direct contact with the truck drivers.

Zvarych emphasized that "the methods of the protesters should not be tolerated in a European civilized country, let alone the moral aspect of this provocation." He added that Ukraine demands that those responsible for this incident be found and held accountable.

"The Polish authorities must decisively respond in the legal field to this shameful and offensive crime against Ukrainians and the majority of Poles, and not allow such barbaric actions in the future," concluded the ambassador.
