SBI prosecutes 10 more customs officials for facilitating illegal imports of oil products by companies close to Medvedchuk
The State Bureau of Investigations (SBI) has handed notices to ten more employees of the customs post in Mukachevo on suspicion of being involved in facilitating the illegal import of petroleum products by companies close to former MP Viktor Medvedchuk.
"Employees of the Main Investigation Department of the State Bureau of Investigations handed notices to ten more employees of the Mukachevo customs post of the Zakarpattia customs office. Due to the assistance of the officials to companies controlled by Viktor Medvedchuk, the state budget lost more than UAH 24 million," the SBI said in a statement on its Telegram channel on Tuesday.
According to the report, during 2017-2018, a company from Medvedchuk's sphere of influence imported oil products – light and medium distillates by rail and road, but, the documents indicated that the tanks contained gas condensate, and not excisable goods.
"During customs clearance, customs officials 'did not notice' the substitution and cleared light and medium distillates as gas condensate. This allowed the organizers to evade payment of excise tax and VAT valued at millions of hryvnias," the SBI said.
