Russian nuclear scientists should shout about seizure of Ukrainian NPPs, but they stubbornly silent - Energoatom head

National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom does not have any support from Russian nuclear colleagues, although they undoubtedly understand the danger and risks of hostilities and the seizure of Ukrainian nuclear power plants (NPPs) by the Russian military, head of the company Petro Kotin has said.

"We still have a very little hope for any support from Russian nuclear scientists that we will be able to reach them. Historically, as the National Nuclear Generating Company, we are under the auspices of the Moscow center of the World Association of Nuclear Operators. There are a lot of people working in this center, who now just have to shout that one of their members is in a situation where its facilities are being bombed, but we don't hear any voices," he said during the UA Together telethon on Wednesday.

Regarding the situation with the blackout at Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, the head of Energoatom stressed that the main danger of this is the lack of power supply for spent nuclear fuel storage facility No.1, which stores fuel shipped from all Chornobyl power units, more than 20,000 fuel assemblies.

"It needs constant cooling, a corresponding scheme has been worked out there, cooling is carried out by electric pumps," Kotin explained.

Currently, according to Kotin, negotiations are underway with the invaders on a "green corridor" so that repair crews of NPC Ukrenergo can repair damaged power lines and resume electricity supply to Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

As reported, the system operator, NPC Ukrenergo, on the morning of March 9 reported that Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant, as a result of the hostile actions of the Russian occupiers, was completely de-energized. The fighting continues, making repairs as well as power supply restoring impossible, the company said.
