Parish transition into single UOC to be based on decision of 2/3 of parishioners - UOC-KP head

The transition of the parishes into the single Ukrainian Orthodox Church will take place if such a decision is supported by two thirds of the parishioners, Patriarch Filaret (Denysenko), the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate has said.

"The mechanism [of transition] consists of the meeting of the whole parish. If two thirds of the parish votes to stay in the Russian Church, then this parish will belong to the Russian Church. If two thirds of the parishioners votes for the Ukrainian Church, then the church together with parishioners will go to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church," he said, answering a question from Interfax-Ukraine agency in Kyiv on Friday.

At the same time, the head of the UOC-KP clarified that if two thirds of the votes are not reached to take a decision, then the position of the parish will remain the same.
