Hacker wanted by 30 countries arrested in Ukraine
Zhovtnevy District Court of Poltava has arrested Hennadiy Kapkanov, a suspect in the creation of the Avalanche cyber network who was wanted by 30 countries, for two months, Ukrainian Interior Ministry spokesman Artem Shevchenko has said.
"Sixty days in custody without any alternative for difficult-to-catch Poltava hacker Hennadiy Kapkanov, the organizer of the Avalanche international, fraudulent cyber network. He did not have to hide from the cyber police for more than a year with a fake passport," Shevchenko wrote on his page on Twitter.
On November 30, 2016, the police conducted an international special operation to eliminate the cyber network. At the same time, in Poltava, law enforcers detained the organizer of the Avalanche – a 33-year-old local resident.
On December 1, 2016, Zhovtnevy District Court of Poltava considered a petition from a representative of the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine about his arrest, but the court refused to choose such a measure of restraint. After that, the suspect disappeared from the courtroom, and later he was placed on the international wanted list.
