Kazakhstan to continue preventive anti-corruption efforts - president

More than 2,500 civil servants have been sentenced for corruptive practices in Kazakhstan over the past three years, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said.

"The preventive anti-corruption efforts will continue. A lot is being done. More than 2,500 persons, including top-ranking officials and heads of state companies, have been convicted of corruptive practices over the past three years," Nazarbayev said in the Annual Address to the Nation.

The document was posted on the presidential website on Wednesday.

The damage of approximately 17 billion tenge sustained by the country was compensated over that period, Nazarbayev said.

"Digitalization of processes conducted by governmental agencies, including their liaison with the population and business, is important. Citizens need to see how their appeals are being processed and receive quality answers on time," he said.

Nazarbayev called for further strengthening guarantees of constitutional rights, providing the supremacy of law, and humanizing law enforcement.

"Ensuring the public peace and security, we should actively implement intellectual systems of video surveillance and facial recognition in public areas and exercise traffic control," Nazarbayev said.
