Slovakia's ex-vice-premier Miklos preliminarily agrees to join Ukraine's government if citizenship unchanged

Slovakia's former Deputy Prime Minister and former Finance Minister Ivan Miklos, who has been advising the Ukrainian finance and economy ministers in the past year, has given preliminary consent to joining a new Ukrainian government of Volodymyr Groysman if his Slovak citizenship is preserved, according to the Slovak edition Dennik N.

"I've got an offer to [enter] the government and given my preliminary consent to my nomination after the fulfillment of certain conditions as related to the program and personnel, as well as those relating to citizenship," Miklos told Dennik N.

According to him, his possible appointment as vice prime minister and minister of finance was discussed at a meeting with President Petro Poroshenko and president-supported candidate for prime minister Groysman.

He said that he had not run at recent parliamentary elections in Slovakia and did not plan to be in the Slovak political arena in coming years.

As reported, Miklos was minister for privatization in Slovakia in 1991-1992. He was also deputy prime minister for economy in 1998-2002 and finance minister in 2002-2006 and 2010-2012. He was also MP in the Parliament of Slovakia in 2006 -2010. He is currently a member of the advisory board of the VoxUkraine group of economists.

As of February 2015 Miklos is an advisor to Ukrainian Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko. He also advises Economic Development and Trade Minister Aivaras Abromavicius.
