EU insists that DPR, LPR hold election according to Ukrainian laws

The peace in Ukraine works, however the election of MPs in country's east must be held in accordance with the Minsk accords and under control of Kyiv, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini told journalists in Vilnius.

According to her, recently the peace has been observed, but there are still other provisions to be realized in coming months starting with the local elections held in accordance with the Minsk accords and undoubtedly Ukrainian laws.

Local elections in Ukraine are to be held on October 25, however the so-called Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) says it will hold elections one week earlier, and the so-called Luhansk People's Republic (LPR) – one week after.

At a joint press conference, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Linas Linkevicius said that the Ukrainian crisis hadn't been resolved yet, and the West should remain united and pressure the aggressors.

According to the UN, since April 2014 the conflict in Ukraine has already taken nearly 8,000 lives.
