Prosecutor General: Kyiv making all possible to seize property of ex-VIP officials abroad, procedure not quick

Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin expects that Ukraine would receive all the property seized abroad from former Ukrainian officials, although the procedure is long.

"State Ukraine, which I think has made all possible and would do all possible, will be able to receive all property seized and then the funds and property will be handed to Ukraine," he said at a press conference on Tuesday in Kyiv.

He said that "unfortunately the procedure in absentia is long, and it foresees hearing at Ukrainian courts, then after delivering of a judgment we will send the rulings of courts to other states that have funds and property of defendants in the case: Yanukovych, Bohatyriova, Arbuzov and others."

Shokin said that according to the European Convention on International Cooperation in Criminal Matters, those state that have property of former Ukrainian officials against whom Ukrainian courts will issue verdicts, "the court procedure will be conducted in these states, and then our Justice Ministry will join the matter and the property will be fully or partially seized."
