Terrorist threat level outside ATO zone rises significantly – Poroshenko

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has said that the terrorist threat level in Ukraine's regions has increased significantly.

"The level of subversive activities and terrorist threats in the areas outside the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) zone has significantly increased," he said during an expanded meeting of the Interior Ministry of Ukraine in Kyiv on Friday.

Poroshenko said that criminals will exploit the fact that a significant portion of law enforcement agents and resources are focused on the fight against various manifestations and consequences of the Russian hybrid war against Ukraine, "and therefore there has been a rapid increase in serious crimes of certain kinds."

"In Donetsk region, the number of murders has increased three times for objective reasons of the Russian aggression, the same indicator doubled in Chernivtsi region, increased by 1.8 times in Mykolaiv, and 1.5 times in Zhytomyr. The number of thefts grew by 15%. The most serious surge of this type of crime was registered in Kyiv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions. This indicator is virtually the same in Chernihiv and Lviv regions," he said.
