Russia has not lifted ban on anthracite exports to Ukraine - DTEK

Russia has not lifted its ban on exports of anthracite coal to Ukraine, DTEK Energy CEO Vsevolod Starukhin has said.

"Russia from November banned exports of anthracite coal to Ukraine and has not lifted this ban. The measure is aimed at promoting coal purchases from Donbas," he told reporters in Kurakhove (Donetsk region).

According to Starukhin, Ukraine will face problems during the next winter season because it will be impossible to accumulate the required coal reserves. In particular, fuel supplies from the ATO zone are restricted due to the capacity of the Yasynuvata-Skotovata and the remaining rail tracks often being destroyed. At the same time, the National Commission for Energy, Housing and Utilities Services Regulation (NCER) is not ready to set electricity tariffs for thermal power plants in the amount necessary to start importing coal.

As reported, in the autumn-winter period of 2014-2015 DTEK imported 2 million tonnes of coal from Russia, South Africa, and Australia. In addition, 600,000 tonnes of coal was imported from DTEK enterprises in the ATO zone.

Coal imports last year were also carried out by state-owned enterprise Ukrinterenergo (from South Africa) and Centrenergo (from Russia)
