The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine has developed a roadmap to retain control of the Ukrainian-Russian border, the service has told Interfax-Ukraine.

"The administration of the State Border Guard Service has developed a roadmap for regaining control of the Ukrainian-Russian state border as part of the fulfillment of the Ukrainian president's peace plan to settle the situation in the country's east and the respective Minsk agreements," the service told Interfax-Ukraine.

Several tasks stipulated in the roadmap have already been implemented by the border guard service. "In particular, [the Ukrainian border guards] have regained control of the entire stretch in Kherson region, and deployed and launched checkpoints at the entry and exit of the security line, along the contact line, in Luhansk and Donetsk regions," the service said.

The service also stated that the authorities are working on the issue of introducing joint control with Russia on persons, vehicles and cargo in the problematic sections of the Ukrainian-Russian border in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

"We'd also like to inform that an intergovernmental group of 25 Ukrainian order and customs officers are now at the Russian-based Donetsk checkpoint for executing joint control. The conditions of [their] stay let the group carry out their tasks," the service said.

According to the service, consultations between the chiefs of the Ukrainian and Russian border services at the Hoptivka checkpoint in Kharkiv region were held on October 30, 2014, to discuss issues related to the stabilization of the joint border.

Chief of the State Border Service of Ukraine Viktor Nazarenko later informed Interfax-Ukraine that the consultations had been tough, but that both sides had agreed to develop a roadmap to stabilize the situation at the border.
